Create a Base

A new base in a workspace, with its tables and their fields.

Action referenceCreate

What this action does #

First, connect Airtable in Services. Then open Actions → + → Airtable and choose Create a Base.

To find this direct request action, choose Every Airtable endpoint in the integration’s picker. The setup guide also explains the dedicated forms for common tasks.

What a run does

Running or testing this action creates something in your connected service.

More about this action

Every base starts with at least one table, and every table with at least one field. A table's first field becomes its primary field — the one that names each record — so it must be a type that can be primary, such as single line text. Field names can't repeat within a table, whatever their case. Each table gets a grid view showing every field.

The token needs the schema.bases:write scope, and you must be able to create bases in the workspace. A token only reaches the bases added to it under Access, so unless it was given the whole workspace, add the new base to the token before a later step uses it.

Inputs to fill in #

Open an input to choose its value. Keep a fixed value with Text, receive it from Shortcuts, ask when the action runs, or use an Earlier Step. Read how input sources work.

Name

RequiredText

What the base is called.

Example value (replace with your own):
Reading list

Workspace

RequiredText

The workspace's ID — it starts with wsp. Open the workspace on airtable.com and it's in the address.

Example value (replace with your own):
wspmhESAta6clCCwF

Tables

RequiredStructured data (JSON)

A list of tables, each {name, description?, fields}. Each field is {name, type, description?, options?}; the first one is the primary field.

Example value (replace with your own):
[{"name":"Books","fields":[{"name":"Title","type":"singleLineText"},{"name":"Notes","type":"multilineText"}]}]

What comes back #

In the action editor, open Output → Returned Value to choose fields for your shortcut. These are the response fields described by the app; a service may omit an optional field or return an empty list. JSON File contains the full response.

Run it from Shortcuts #

  1. Give the action a recognizable name and tap Save.
  2. In Apple Shortcuts, add Shortcutify’s Execute Action and select the saved action.
  3. Supply any Param or File slots you bound in the inputs, then run the shortcut.

If the result is unexpected, open Logs in Shortcutify, select the run, and inspect this step’s inputs and response.
