Dropbox
Find files, browse folders, upload documents, and get links to use in your shortcuts.
What you can do #
Use Dropbox to list a folder’s files, search for a document, check storage usage, upload a file, or create a share link. Folder inputs offer a folder browser. Open a folder to go deeper, then use Select this folder to choose it.
Your Dropbox developer app’s access mode matters: Full Dropbox can work with existing files, while App folder is limited to the folder created for that app.
Connect Dropbox #
- Create an app at Dropbox’s developer console with Scoped access. Choose Full Dropbox or App folder for the files you want to use.
- In Permissions, enable account_info.read, files.metadata.read, files.content.read, files.content.write, sharing.read, and sharing.write, then press Submit.
- In Settings, add the exact redirect address below under OAuth 2 redirect URIs. Copy the App key.
- In Shortcutify, open Services → Dropbox, paste the App key into Client ID, and tap Connect Dropbox. Sign in and approve the connection. No app secret is needed.
The App key is Dropbox’s name for the client identifier. The redirect address returns the sign-in result to the app. Dropbox’s OAuth guide explains app access and permissions.
https://auth.getshortcutify.app/oauth/dropboxExample: list files in a folder #
- In Actions, tap +, choose Dropbox, then List Folder.
- Open Folder path and choose a folder. Leave it empty to use the root of your Dropbox or app folder.
- Keep Recursive off to list the immediate contents, or turn it on to include subfolders.
- Name and save the action, then select it in Apple Shortcuts using Execute Action.
To download a file, use Get Temporary Download Link. It returns a link and file details. Pass its link to Shortcuts’ Get Contents of URL action to fetch the file.
Upload File uses strict conflict checking and accepts files up to 150 MiB. Upload sessions for larger files are not implemented. This integration has no delete-file action.
If something does not work #
My existing folders are missing
Check whether your Dropbox developer app was created with App folder access. That mode only sees its own folder. Full Dropbox is the mode for existing files elsewhere in the account.
My download link stopped working
Temporary download links expire after four hours. Run Get Temporary Download Link again to obtain a fresh one.
My folder contains more files than the result
Open the step’s Fetch setting to retrieve more pages. One page is the default. Each extra page adds another request.
The upload reports a name conflict
An existing file already uses the destination name. Choose a different name or destination. Shortcutify’s upload does not overwrite it.
All Dropbox actions #
These are the actions available in the app’s request picker. Open one for its inputs, returned fields, and permissions.
