YouTube
Look up public videos, channels, playlists, and comments from Apple Shortcuts.
What you can do #
YouTube uses an API key from your own Google Cloud project. The key allows requests for public YouTube data. This integration does not sign in to your YouTube account or change its videos and playlists.
Use it to get a video’s title and views, read a playlist, search for videos, or look up a channel. Video, playlist, and supported channel inputs accept the relevant YouTube link as well as an identifier. For your own channel’s private reports, use YouTube Analytics instead.
Connect YouTube #
- Pick or create a project in the Google Cloud console. Under APIs & Services → Library, enable YouTube Data API v3.
- Open Credentials → Create credentials → API key and copy the key.
- In Shortcutify, open Services → YouTube, paste it into Paste your token, and tap Connect YouTube.
Google can restrict the key to YouTube Data API v3 and an iOS app with bundle ID com.guramkajaia.shortcutify. Your project’s quota limits the number of requests; see its quota page for your current allocation. Google’s setup guide explains projects, keys, and quotas.
Example: get details about a video #
- Copy a YouTube video’s share link.
- In Actions, tap +, choose YouTube, then Get Video Details.
- Open Videos and paste the link. To accept a different link each time, set its source to Shortcuts and choose Param 1.
- Name and save the action. Run it from Apple Shortcuts with Execute Action and provide the link through Param 1 if you bound it.
The returned fields include the video’s title and other documented details. A removed, private, or inaccessible video may be absent from the result.
If something does not work #
The key is rejected
Check that the entire key was copied, YouTube Data API v3 is enabled in the same project, and any key restrictions include the correct API and app bundle ID.
I reached my quota
Check the project’s quota and usage in Google Cloud. Repeated searches and fetching more pages use additional requests. The quota belongs to the Google Cloud project, not an individual shortcut.
Can I read my private playlists?
This integration only uses an API key for public data. It does not authorize your account for private playlist access.
Which link should I paste for a channel?
Get Channel accepts a handle such as @name or its YouTube handle link. Get Channels by ID accepts channel IDs and supported /channel/ links. The individual input reference describes what it accepts.
