Philips Hue
Read and control lights, rooms, and scenes through your Hue Bridge’s internet connection.
What you can do #
This integration uses Hue’s remote service. You need a Hue Bridge connected to the internet and linked to your Hue account. Bluetooth-only lights cannot use it.
You can list lights and rooms, read supported features, change a light’s power or brightness, recall a scene, and read sensor values. A room and the group of lights that belongs to it are different resources; use the picker for the input you are setting.
Connect Philips Hue #
- In the Philips Hue app, confirm your Bridge is linked to your Hue account and has internet access.
- At Hue’s developer portal, add a Remote Hue API app. Set its Callback URL to the exact redirect address below.
- Copy its Client ID and Client secret. In Shortcutify, open Services → Philips Hue and fill in both fields.
- Tap Connect Philips Hue and sign in to your Hue account. Shortcutify completes the remote bridge-key setup after authorization.
You do not need to press the physical Bridge button for this remote setup. A client secret is a credential from your developer app; it is different from your Hue account password. Hue’s remote setup reference may require a developer sign-in.

- In Actions, tap +, choose Philips Hue, then List Lights.
- This read action has no input fields to fill in. Name and save it.
- Use Execute Action in Apple Shortcuts to run the saved action. Select returned fields in Shortcutify if you only want part of the list.
To control a light, create a separate action such as Set Light On or Off and use its light picker to select the light. Testing a control action changes the real light’s state.
A brightness of 0 means minimum brightness, not off. Use the power action to turn a light off. Color and effects depend on what the selected light supports.
If something does not work #
I only have Bluetooth lights
This integration needs a Hue Bridge linked to your account. It cannot connect directly to Bluetooth-only lights.
A color or effect does not work
Check Get Light Details to see what the chosen light supports. The presence of a control action does not mean every light supports that feature.
Which temperature unit should I enter?
The color-temperature action uses mirek, not Kelvin. The input reference shows the accepted range; the individual light can support a narrower range.
Hue reports a communication error
Check the light’s power, Bridge connection, and internet access. The remote integration needs Hue’s cloud service to reach your Bridge.
